Boiling Spring Lakes is 23.3 square miles and conveniently located between Wilmington and Southport. In 2017 the population was roughly 6719. The community has a 275 acre lake. During Florence the damn broke and the lake drained. The city is currently estimating the lake to begin refilling in 2020. Spring Lake is another beautiful lake that offers swimming and water activities. With over 50 different lakes and ponds Boiling Spring Lakes offers homes for everyone ranging from the low 100’s and up.

Has been named one of the best family beaches in the country for good reason. Try kayaking, bird watching, canoeing or standup paddling on the Intracoastal Waterway. During the Civil War Holden Beach and Lockwood’s Folley Inlet became the resting place of several shipwrecks: the Confederate blockade runners CSS Elizabeth and CSS Bendigo and the Union blockade ship USS Iron Age (1862). The remains of the USS Iron Age can be seen on most eastern end of the island during the periods of low-tide.

Adjoining Bird Island coastal reserve this is an old-fashioned family style beach at the southern-most point in North Carolina. Sunset Beach was home to the last working swing bridge on the east coast. This has since been replaced with a modern 65 foot high arc bridge. The old Sunset Beach pontoon swing bridge was saved by the Old Bridge Preservation Society which plans to create a museum celebrating the old bridge and the town’s history.
